With great sadness, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our esteemed colleague, Professor Dr. Christina Stukenborg-Colsman, on March 24, 2025. She was an outstanding physician and scientist whose contributions left a lasting impact.

As Chief Surgeon and Head of the Department of Foot Surgery at the Orthopedic Clinic at Annastift, Prof. Stukenborg-Colsman was a physician of exceptional skill and dedication. She redefined standards in patient care and combined clinical excellence with a deep sense of responsibility. Her relentless commitment to advancing medical science played a key role in establishing implant research as a major focus in Hanover.

She made significant contributions to the Collaborative Research Center 599 “Biomedical Engineering” as a project leader and was a driving force in the Collaborative Research Center/Transregio “SIIRI” (Safety-Integrated and Infection-Reactive Implants), helping to shape innovative technologies in orthopedics. Her clinical acumen, scientific vision, and leadership were invaluable to the success of these collaborative projects and to the development of the Lower Saxony Center for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research, and Development (NIFE).

Christina Stukenborg-Colsman was highly respected far beyond Hanover for her medical expertise, scientific achievements, and tireless dedication. Yet, it was her warmth, empathy, optimism, and sense of humor that truly set her apart. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

We are grateful for the time we shared with her and will remember her not only as an exceptional physician and researcher, but also as a remarkable human being.
