For whom is the IRTG suitable?
The Integrated Research Training Group – Implant Sciences – is aimed at graduates in natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, human medicine and dentistry. Applicants must have an excellent MSc degree or a degree in human medicine/dentistry and a keen interest in interdisciplinary research in the field of implant sciences. Science thrives on intercultural exchange. We welcome applications from all over the world and encourage international networking among our students.
International recognition and comparability
As the first IRTG at MHH and LUH, we align our qualification expectations with the European Qualifications Framework for scientific careers and the Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning, taking into account national and international requirements. Accordingly, we ensure that both the professional and personal skills of our doctoral candidates are promoted.
Interdisciplinary learning and working
Our doctoral candidates immerse themselves in at least two complementary interdisciplinary fields (e.g. dentistry and engineering) within a project-related context. Our practical training sessions, in particular, promote an understanding of methods in other disciplines. Our scientific seminars (lunch seminars and implant lectures) contribute to the development of interdisciplinary understanding.
Participate actively
During the monthly Jour Fixe and the annual summer school, our doctoral candidates can design their own learning content, develop ideas and assist with event organisation. This independence enables doctoral candidates to further develop their own projects. To strengthen the strategic development of the network, they can contribute to scientific work in task groups and influence decision-making processes as doctoral student representatives or equal opportunities officers
Perfectly prepared
To promote personal development, all opportunities offered by participating institutions are open to our doctoral candidates. The IRTG places particular emphasis on topics such as public outreach, career development, mentoring, presentation techniques, and scientific writing.
Each doctoral candidate is supervised by an interdisciplinary team of two and receives personal support from the IRTG management and coordination team to promote the successful progress of their project and career development. We will work with you to develop a career plan that prepares you for potential future roles in line with your professional and personal interests.
