SIIRI receives continued funding from the German Research Foundation
We are delighted that SIIRI will be funded by the German Research Foundation for another 3.5 years! With over ten million euros, we can continue our research on safe, intelligent, and patient-oriented implants – an important contribution to improving healthcare sustainably.
Since July 2021, an interdisciplinary team from medicine, dentistry, engineering, natural sciences, and social sciences has been working on transferring safety strategies from aviation to medicine. More than 150 researchers from Hannover, Braunschweig, and other locations collaborate transdisciplinarily, contributing their expertise from various fields, including materials science and chemistry with a focus on modern implant materials, medicine and dentistry with an emphasis on microbiome analysis, biomarker development, and innovative model systems, as well as sensor technology and new digital concepts that enable digital implant lifecycle management. This results in implants that can detect complications early and respond autonomously.
Our research not only generates important scientific insights but also provides a direct societal benefit: it enhances patient safety, reduces medical risks, and supports the development of modern, sustainable healthcare solutions.
We are proud of what we have achieved together as a team and highly motivated to take the next steps. For SIIRI, this means cutting-edge research, close collaboration across disciplines, and a team spirit that drives innovation to improve the lives of patients sustainably.
