On September 30, 2025, the popular SIIRI for Public lecture series on smart implants continued with another engaging evening at the Festsaal Marahrenshaus, DIAKOVERE Annastift, Hannover. This time, the focus was on knee and hip endoprostheses, and numerous attendees took the opportunity to learn directly from leading experts how modern research is improving the safety, durability, and functionality of implants.

Insights and highlights of the evening:

Guests received in-depth insights into the latest developments in implant technology. Prof. Dr. Henning Windhagen opened the evening with his lecture, “Sport and Endoprosthetics,” explaining how targeted physical activity supports rehabilitation after implant surgery. Dr. Nina Angrisani discussed how implant infections can be detected, prevented, and effectively treated, while Dr. Marco Haertlé presented different approaches to rehabilitation following endoprosthetic surgery. Dr. Stefanie John made the often invisible stresses on the knee joint measurable using computer models, providing fascinating insights into biomechanical research. The evening concluded with Dr. Lars-René Tücking, who demonstrated how technological advancements can improve gait after joint replacement.

The direct exchange with SIIRI experts was particularly valued, as attendees’ questions about daily life, exercise, and therapy were answered in a practical, hands-on manner. The evening offered an impressive demonstration of how clinical excellence, research, and patient care go hand in hand.
